When you’re browsing Reddit, it’s annoying to see deleted posts with tons of upvotes. A brief look at the thread title should pique your curiosity. Fortunately, there are several different ways to view old, deleted Reddit posts and comments so you can satisfy your inquisitive mind.
Can You Still View Deleted Reddit Threads
In April 2023, Reddit made some significant changes to the way developers interact with their application program interface (API), essentially adding a price to their previously free API. Rejecting Reddit’s decision, several major subreddits shut down as the community protested. This price change led to the shutdown of several third-party apps, including apps that allow you to view deleted Reddit threads.
So, many of these apps may not work right now, and those that do will only fetch comments and threads published before the API change takes effect in June 2023. However, don’t despair. There are still many ways to view deleted Reddit posts.
Reveddit
When you visit reveddit.com, you will find only a text field where you can enter a username, subreddit name, or a link to a thread.
Upon specifying the subreddit name, Reveddit will list all the deleted threads and comments posted under that subreddit. You can then browse through the results to find anything you want or simply search for something you want using the other search options.
You can enter the URL for both the post and the specific thread. Alternatively, you can replace “reddit” with “reveddit” in the thread URL and it will take you to the same Reveddit web page.
Reveddit fetches data from the Pushshift archive and presents it in an interface like the old Reddit. Pushshift is a social media data collection and tracking platform that has been storing Reddit data since 2015.
If you want to see all the deleted comments of a post, you will have to wait for some time as Reveddit loads the data. However, if you want to directly see a particular comment in a thread, there is a quick way. You can specify the direct link to the thread containing the deleted comment and Reveddit will fetch and load only that thread from the archive.
The only drawback? Reveddit does not display comments deleted by users. You can only view comments deleted by the moderators of the subreddit.
Resavr
While Resavr does not allow you to view deleted posts, it does allow you to view deleted comments on Reddit. Another limitation is that you cannot search for a specific thread using its link to view the deleted comment.
One of the benefits of the site is that the resavr.com interface is quite simple. It lists recently deleted Reddit comments and is a great website for those who want to spend some time reading deleted comments. It links back to the original Reddit thread so you can go ahead and view the full post to understand the context behind it.
The Wayback Machine
Also known as the Internet Archive, the Wayback Machine archives the entire internet, including Reddit. If the above-mentioned tools fail to display deleted Reddit content, you can visit the Wayback Machine in the hope that it might have archived the comment you want to read.
To get started, visit web.archive.org and enter the URL of the Reddit post you want to view. Make sure to clean up the URL first by removing any trailing, unnecessary parameters.
The website will display recorded snapshots spread across a calendar. If there is a relevant snapshot, you can click on the day the snapshot was recorded and view the web page. However, if a user/moderator deletes a comment or thread before the Wayback Machine archives it, it will display the comments as deleted.
Undit
Undit is a great way to reveal posts and comments deleted by moderators and those deleted by users. There are two ways to use Undit’s features. First, you can add the Undit link to your bookmarks bar and click and drag it to pull up deleted comments while viewing Reddit posts.
PushPull
Finally, PushPull has an easy process for searching Reddit. This website lets you search for a specific username or subreddit. It will pull up both current and deleted/removed posts in an easy list view. You don’t have to fill in all the search boxes.
While it’s great that you can choose which date to pull from, you can easily just enter a username which will pull all comments and posts without any additional filters. However, if you’re looking for a specific post or comment, and you know the time frame, it will help you reduce the amount of scrolling and reading you have to do. You can also use different search parameters to search Reddit effectively.
